Alessandra de Norões Milfont lives and works in Curitiba. Since 2012, she has exhibited her work in public and private institutions and events in Curitiba, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Pontal de Maceió (CE), and Helmshore (UK).
Career
The artist began her career in fashion illustration — digital drawing, watercolor, ink, and other techniques — which led to solo exhibitions, participation in group shows, and several awards. She illustrated a print book on fashion and had her work selected for four consecutive years to appear in the e-book of the Fashion Revolution Forum, a nonprofit movement advocating for a less aggressive, more transparent fashion industry, held simultaneously across capitals around the world.
Since 2016, Milfont has been immersed in the current Technological Revolution, with research centered on the development of Artificial Intelligence and futurist essays on its social, cultural, philosophical, political, and economic implications. Her current body of work grows out of this deepening curiosity about new technologies and their consequences, restlessly questioning what comes next as these technologies gain consciousness.
In 2021, she wrote the Robotisme Manifesto, published by the Brazilian Book Chamber and inspired by Marinetti's Futurist Manifesto.
Language and Technique
A self-taught painter, Milfont has chosen a visual language that contrasts futuristic subject matter with the age-old technique of oil painting with natural solvents. Most of her works are executed using the centuries-old alla prima ("wet-on-wet") technique, resulting in bold, intense, expressive brushwork and dreamlike imagery with softly blurred contours that evoke the sensation of watching a dream unfold. Strong contrast and exuberant, meticulously chosen colors run through much of her work — provocative images that raise questions about the exponential development of Artificial Intelligence and its relationship to humankind.
Conceptual Axes
Milfont's work does not illustrate technology but philosophizes about it: her paintings function as futurist essays on the social, cultural, political, and economic implications of Artificial Intelligence. In this light, Robotisme emerges as an authorial movement — a theoretical proposition of her own, historically anchored in Futurism yet oriented toward the idea of an artificial consciousness taking shape. This reflection also runs through her technical choices: the handmade quality of her painting — the oil, the natural solvents, the alla prima technique — acts as a deliberate counterpoint to the era's most advanced subject matter, turning the act of painting itself into a slow form of resistance against technological acceleration.
